Immersive visit to the Veneto-Water Living Lab at the “La Fagiana” farm
At La Fagiana, a farm near the Venice Lagoon, a drone is applying silicon foliar fertilization to a drip-irrigated rice field. This drone application doesn’t compromise the soil structure, while the micro-irrigation saves water compared to traditional flood irrigation. Innovative technologies are employed for efficient resource use and minimizing environmental impact.
The flooded rice fields represent both tradition and innovation. At La Fagiana farm, two irrigation methods are compared: the traditional flooded system and drip irrigation. The goal is to increase rice productivity while reducing water consumption — keeping the delicate balance between innovation and sustainability.
La Fagiana’s drainage network not only regulates water flow essential to the rice fields but also hosts zones dedicated to biodiversity conservation.
Here, cultivated land and natural habitats coexist, creating an ecological mosaic where sustainable water management supports both agricultural productivity and environmental protection.
