Extreme Climate and Agri-food Indicators for the Assessment of Production Chains

Climate change is profoundly reshaping agriculture and agri-food supply chains, presenting new challenges but also opening up opportunities for innovation. In this context, the analysis of extreme climate indicators and agri-food trends represents a key tool for guiding production strategies toward more resilient and sustainable models.

Thanks to the collaboration with 3A SRL, a company active since 1997 in the management of agrometeorological networks and the digitalization of agricultural processes, we have been able to develop reliable indicators based on data collected from the weather stations of the Piedmont Region.

Historical data series allow us to understand the evolution of climatic phenomena over time, providing a solid foundation for strategic planning and for adapting crops to new environmental conditions. Real-time monitoring, on the other hand, enables timely interventions in daily agronomic management: from disease forecasting to irrigation control, and even the activation of alert systems against extreme events such as frost or drought.

To support these analyses, a collection of climate and agri-food charts is available, built from both historical and updated data. These interactive tools allow users to visually explore the impact of climate on agricultural production and to guide operational and strategic decisions with greater precision.

Although the analysis is currently focused on the Piedmont region, a gradual expansion at the national level is planned, with the goal of supporting adaptation strategies and sustainable innovation on a broader scale.
