Farm network setup (Living Labs): a network of farms representative of the different agricultural systems to apply innovative technologies and techniques for the sustainable management of crops, animals and forests.
European policies and strategies (e.g.Strategy, Green Deal) are promoting the agro-ecological transition of processing systems. These systems will need to produce more food, fiber and other bio-based products with minimized inputs, environmental impact and greenhouse gas emissions, and with enhanced ecosystem services, zero waste and adequate societal value. Thus, innovative solutions under the global change scenario are strongly needed.
A living labs approach will allow to set up a network to test t innovative approaches in real world conditions in cooperation with stakeholders. Living laboratories are ecosystems of open innovation, centered on the user, which often co-operate and co-innovate in a territorial context, integrating concurrent research and innovation processes within a public-private partnership.

Read moreLiving labs in agriculture are networks of researchers, farmers, and other stakeholders working together to develop and disseminate innovative practices and technologies. In particular, researchers and “Lighthouse farms,” that is, technologically advanced agricultural enterprises, jointly plan and implement On Farm Experimentation (OFE), which involves large-scale experiments conducted under real field conditions. Other stakeholders involved in living labs include professionals, public and private entities, and companies providing goods or services. All participants collaborate to design and promote innovative strategies to enhance the adaptation of various cropping systems to climate change, with a particular focus on water, carbon, and energy management.
